PLAY!MAP    pictures

Play!Map is a game-scenario. We will be strolling through the city and analyzing what we are doing and the places we will see. The walks will be created on the basis of mental maps, that everybody wants to carry with him. It is about walking, strolling, connecting disconnected stores of memory and giving a story to places that did not have one for us before.

Rules of the Game:

We are inviting two or more persons (from Belgrade) to participate in the game. The participants are asked to draw his or her own mental map before UNDER THE BRIDGE will take place. This map is to be sent to us via Email.

The mental map should be like described below:

-Take a map of your home city and cover it with a sheet of transparent paper. Please mark on the transparent paper "north" and note its scale!

-Now mark the place you live at and then 4 more points which play a relevant role in your life, which you visit frequently or have an importand meaning to you.

-Please make a short mark about each place.

-Scan the transparent paper with the marked spots on it and send it as .jpg-file to ric(at)machbar.com or m.roth(at)top-ev.de.

We will put these "mental maps" on a map of Berlin (and your home will be on our home place). The places marked by this on our map will be visited by us, photographed, videotaped or documented by other media. These Documents will be brought to Belgrade by us.

Additionaly we will draw our own "mental maps" of Berlin and will stroll around Belgrade with these after the same system. Our focus in doing this will not only be on the marked places, but also on going and finding our way through Belgrade.

We would like the other participants who sent us their mental maps and anyone else interested to join us with our walks and do their own documentation.

Excerpt from the concept of Play!Map:

Projection-methods as measurement and limitation

What determines our movement in the frame of the socio-cultural
field are our different models of projection and the distance,
with which we constitute the momentary (non-) reality’s
coordinates. What is under question are the models that are based
on the fundament of our personal archive.

On a specific field of projection that is for example marked out by
ideology and economy, projection methods are responsible for the
limitations of culture, utopia, idea, fantasy, art. This measurement
of values becomes evident in: geographic-historical boundaries,
prejudice, mystification, hype, illusion, phantasma etc. and is
nourished by the socio-cultural archive.
